Christ Clarion has a long history of mission work from right here in the Rochester area to throughout the US, and internationally. Our current focus is on the needs in Rochester.
We are a key supporter of Cameron Community Ministries, an urban Christian outreach ministry based in northwest Rochester. Several of our members have served on the board of directors, volunteer for several programs, serve meals for the “Sunday Celebration” suppers and contribute to the annual school supply drive and to the Cameron clothes closet. We also collect food and help pack food bags for distribution for Southwest Ecumenical Ministries in Rochester. Examples of other local activities include Habitat for Humanity, Foodlink and Elderberry Express.
SWEM Food Cupboard Volunteers
Southwest ecumenical ministries
Christ Clarion has long been a supporter of the Southwest Ecumenical Mission (SWEM) Food Cupboard. SWEM assists people in the southwest side of Rochester and Monroe County who run out of food. Well over 1000 households are helped each year in addition to 40 senior households that receive food each month on a regular basis. By donating food, time and money Christ Clarion helps SWEM fulfill its mission. Monetary donations are used to buy foods that are in short supply, generally proteins.
Each Saturday volunteers fill about 40 paper grocery bags with the basic staples needed for a family of four. Christ Clarion has committed to provide volunteers for the fifth Saturday of months which this occurs (four times a year). Typically two to four volunteers work with a volunteer from SWEM to fill the bags for about an hour or so on Saturday morning. The small time commitment and relatively simple work make this a perfect opportunity for an individual family or a small group of friends to contribute time to a worthy mission.
If you are interested in volunteering in 2022, please contact John Allen at 264-0941. And keep bringing in your nonperishable food items to church!
Communion Sunday
Fill the table with food
School supplies
for cameron community ministries
Each Communion Sunday (generally the first Sunday of the month), we will also collect non-perishable food items to donate to a local food pantry. Each month will have a different theme, but any non-perishable items are always welcome. Let’s come to the Communion Table and share our bounty.
Throughout the year we collect school supplies to support Cameron Community Ministries school supply drive. You can donate unused supplies from last year or new supplies from the back-to-school sales. Cameron will use the supplies to fill backpacks with the basics for the children in their after-school programs. Drop off your donations in the box in the church narthex through mid-August.
